12 Things You Learn Rewatching Skyfall

7. The Sévérine Sex Scene Is Totally Tone Deaf

The Bond franchise doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation when it comes to respectful depictions of strong women, and even though Skyfall is only six years old, it features a pretty embarrassing, awkward treatment of one of its Bond girls.

Silva's mistress Sévérine (Bérénice Lim Marlohe) introduces herself to 007 in Macau, and within moments it's made clear to the audience, and to Bond, that she's a former sex slave who is basically now a slave to Silva.

The fact that Bond creeps into the shower and makes a move on her with this knowledge in mind is pretty awful, even accepting Bond's history of treating women like human garbage.

Though Skyfall's release predated the #MeToo movement by many years, it raised quite a few eyebrows upon release regardless, and plays as even more icky today.

It doesn't help that Sévérine ends up shot dead a few minutes later, and Bond callously calls her death "a waste of good scotch." Oof.
