12 Things You Learn Rewatching You Only Live Twice

4. Blofeld Is A Complete Joke

While Blofeld may well be the most iconic of all the Bond villains, he sure does get a limp, underwhelming treatment in his first major appearance.

This being the first time we actually see the villain's face, there was a lot riding on the reveal, and while Donald Pleasance sure looks the part, his hammy performance is just one of several things wrong with this interpretation of the character.

Blofeld's also barely in the movie, which is extremely disappointing given the slow-burn treatment he's been given up to this point. Blofeld's also decidedly sillier than the movie thinks he is, and to a modern audience, it's hard not to laugh when he rides a monorail around the volcano lair (though this may partially be the fault of Austin Powers).

While Pleasance's iteration of the character is held up by some as the gold standard, he doesn't do nearly enough to really earn it.
