12 Times Gandalf Seriously Dropped The Ball

2. That Time He Chose Bilbo Based On His Childhood Activities

How many people really picked up on why Bilbo was chosen to be the burglar in the quest to the Lonely Mountain? Is it really because he's small? And doesn't smell as bad as a dwarf? Is it really as easy as being born a hobbit with some fairly quirky personality traits? Do not be fooled by what Gandalf tells Thorin. The real reason he chooses Bilbo is based solely on what he was like as a child. He says "I remember a young hobbit who was aways running off in search of elves in the woods. You'd come back trailing mud and twigs". Like every other kid, right Gandalf? Looks like Bilbo just got lucky (or extremely unlucky, depending on how you rate his subsequent trip) through being a family acquaintance.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
