9. John Goodman Won't Get An Oscar Nomination For 10 Cloverfield Lane

John Goodman gave an astonishing performance in 10 Cloverfield Lane as Howard Stambler, an eccentric survivalist who soon enough revealed an incredibly dark past.

Goodman received universal praise for his role in the movie, perfectly balanced between quiet intensity and disturbing bursts of violence, such that some even called for him to be considered for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

There are two major problems here that will prevent Goodman from being nominated for anything (let alone winning): the movie came out in March and will as such be all-but-forgotten by the Academy, and of course, Oscar voters are notoriously prejudiced against card-carrying genre films, especially those that flirt with sci-fi.

It's all the more disappointing considering that Goodman has somehow never been nominated for an Oscar, and this was arguably his best performance to date.
