12 Underrated Superhero Movies That Deserve A Second Viewing

Do you think The Dark Knight is the best big screen incarnation of the Caped Crusader? Batman Returns? Does the upcoming Batman V Superman look like it'll take the crown? If you do then you've been missing out.

Because when it comes down to it, the best portrayal of everyone's favourite brooding billionaire can't actually be found in any of the live-action versions of the character. Set in a beautiful 1940s Gotham City, Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm builds upon the revered animated series with a mysterious and gothic noir that's full of classic Dark Knight villains, jaw-dropping animation and one of the most interesting Batman tales of any medium.

Although some people will no doubt write off Phantasm because of its cartoon leanings, any actual fans of the Caped Crusader would be doing themselves the biggest disservice if they didn't at least give this picture a chance. Hell, the movie is so good that it was released in cinemas - when's the last time you could say that about a superhero cartoon?
