3. Harley Quinn - Suicide Squad (2016)

While much of the buzz surrounding 2016's highly anticipated Suicide Squad adaptation has surrounded Jared Leto's steel-toothed, tattooed take on The Man Who Laughs, people should be way more interested in the Joker's insanely devoted paramour, Harley Quinn. Formerly known as Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, she was the Clown Prince of Crime's psychiatrist before he turned the tables and manipulated her into becoming a twisted psychopath. Since her tumble down the rabbit hole of batsh*t insanity, she gives the Joker himself a run for his money in the lunacy department. As with many modern interpretations of the character, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn seems set to focus on the hypersexualised aspect of her character and how she ably uses this to make people underestimate her skills as a brawler. Also, there€™s something deeply unsettling about the way she fawns over the Joker and this will allow for some interesting psychological exploration. If David Ayer knows what he€™s doing he will take the occasional time out from explosive action to peel back the affectations of her thick New York accent and layers of make-up to provide the audience with some insight into the woman beneath. A more humanised look at Harley's motivations and psyche as well as the promise of her gleefully cracking skulls with a blunt object will have many Batman fans giddy with excitement.
