9. Surtur - Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
While I may be at risk of inciting the rage of everyone who loves to frequent fan-art forums to drool over questionable images of Tom Hiddlestons Loki, its becoming a bit of a chore to have him pop up as the mastermind of everysingle challenge faced by Thor. As much as Id like to say that this was the case in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, it looks as though the tried and true formula will remain unchanged. At least this time hes unleashing a gigantic fire demon straight from the cover of a heavy metal album. Surtur's presence in Thor's third outing is all but confirmed by the film's title, assuming it broadly mirrors the comic book source material it is drawn from. Bringing about the end-times of both mankind and the Asgardians is no mean feat, but its one that Surtur seeks to accomplish. Expect some awesome mythical Norse combat and the stakes to be raised once again as Lokis daft prattery almost causes the destruction of the very thing he wants most, the throne of Asgard. Although Surtur is bound to be inextricably linked to Odins least favourite child, the scale and threat of his presence will easily stand on their own merits. Hes over 1,000ft tall, wields a weapon that is understandably called the Sword of Doom and is matched in strength only by Odin, which is unfortunate as the lord of Asgard seems to fall asleep whenever theres a serious threat. Although Odinsleep just sounds like an excuse to do bugger all to me.
