12 Upcoming Movie Sequels Nobody Asked For
10. Dark Phoenix
Release Date: June 7
There's nothing quite like a sequel being squeaked out in its production company's death throes, is there?
Compare this to The Secret Life of Pets 2 - which comes out on the same day - a sequel to a film that mad a ton of money and was loved by an entire generation of kids.
Conversely, Dark Phoenix is a follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse, which pulled in seriously underwhelming business and was liked by, oh, just about nobody.
This film feels like nothing more than a half-hearted obligation, a final milking of the X-Men teat before it ends up in the arms of Disney and gets inevitably integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Given how utterly workmanlike and unsatisfying it looks, Apocalypse probably should've been the end.
Could It Be Any Good?: Virtually nil. Test screening reports indicate Dark Phoenix is a disaster that Fox has attempted to rescue with re-shoots.
The trailers suggest a generic, overwrought superhero movie with dodgy acting and, yes, Magneto (Michael Fassbender) betraying everybody's trust again. Yawn.
