12 Upcoming Movie Sequels You Definitely Didn't Need
5. Cars 3
Release: June 16, 2017
Premise: A rusty banger comes out of retirement to rev his engine one more time - basically Sean Connery in Never Say Never Again.
Preceded by: Cars 2
A gritty and dark trailer showing a crashed Lightning McQueen that tries to lure in an older audience. Let's be honest here, this isn't the Nolanverse and Cars 2 was a car crash, so why do another? The use of Michael Caine and tired spy stereotypes only emphasised that it was the worst Pixar film to date (Cars 3 could still top it). This time Owen Wilson is back again to lead the franchise into even lower depths, as renowned race car Lightning McQueen attempts to keep up with the younger models.
The tagline promises “From this moment, everything will change," but it probably won't. There is something about the franchise of talking cars that lacks the mass appeal and charm of Toy Story and the other Pixar favourites. Secondly, in the time we have waited for just ONE Incredibles sequel, Pixar has spun out two more Cars in a bad case of merchandise hunger. John Lasseter needs to get his priorities right.
