12 Upcoming Movies That Could Change Things Forever

1. Avatar 2 Is The First Movie To Gross $3 Billion

In spite of so much pre-release negativity, James Cameron's visually stunning sci-fi epic Avatar broke box office records and racked up an insane $2.7 billion at the box office, surpassing the director's own Titanic to become the highest-grossing film of all time. Cameron has been hard at work planning three sequels to the mammoth movie, and though it's likely that the law of diminishing returns will kick in with later installments, it's entirely possible that Avatar 2 will be the first movie in history to gross $3 billion. Given how many have spoken out against Avatar since its release, perhaps Cameron simply caught lightning in a bottle once, but look at the facts: the movie is the best-selling Blu-ray of all time, sequels more often than not make more money than the original film, and given that the average ticket price in America has risen from $7.50 to $8.15 since Avatar's release, that small shift could easily help Avatar 2 make up the $300 million between Avatar's gross and hitting the $3 billion mark. Of course, it's entirely possible Avatar 2 will just make a "modest" $700-800 million at the box office, though given how beloved the original movie is by casual cinemagoers, it has the potential to be even more of an event than the first film, especially for those who somehow didn't bother catching it at the cinema. How would this change cinema? For one, James Cameron would become even smugger than he already is, and studios would have even more faith that these big-budget gambles are worth it. What big changes do you see ahead in the world of film? Shout it out in the comments!
