12 Upcoming Movies That Could Change Things Forever

6. Assassin's Creed Makes People Take Video Game Movies Seriously

It's clear to most that movie studios don't really take video game movies seriously, and as such, the results to date have been mostly terrible, with a few mediocre exceptions that nevertheless didn't live up to their potential (Silent Hill, Prince of Persia). As a result, critics and audiences haven't taken to them either: critics because of the lazy end-product trying to coast on the brand name of the source material, and audiences because these movies often completely abandon the essence of what made the game so great in the first place. However, next year's Assassin's Creed movie could change all that: with Ubisoft having an unprecedented level of creative control over the project, and with star Michael Fassbender also producing, it's entirely possible that gamers could have their first money-printing video game blockbuster on their hands, one which even critics won't be able to ignore. If Creed, which simply has to ape the visual style of any of the game's glossy commercials, succeeds, it may very well kickstart a video game movie revolution, one not particularly dissimilar to the comic book movie craze which began in the early 2000s. To see studios putting more effort into these movies by hiring talented creative people and granting them bigger budgets can only be a good thing for both mediums as a whole.
