12 Upcoming Movies That Have Ignored Massive Mistakes

1. The Young Adult Trend Is Dead - The Darkest Minds

The Lesson: The Fifth Wave

Don't feel bad if you haven't heard of this adaptation of Alexandra Bracken's young adult novel due for release this summer.

The trailer basically suggests the movie has been sitting on a studio shelf for several years, but surprisingly enough, it only started shooting last spring, and as such feels at least a few years too late to the young adult party.

The likes of Twilight, The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner and Divergent have long since made their money and disappeared into the cinematic ether, and even those lucrative teen crowds appear to have grown largely bored with the genre.

As such, The Darkest Minds feels like a movie well out of its time, trying to cash in on a trend long after the well's dried up. There haven't been many recent attempts to kickstart the genre, with the failure of 2016's The Fifth Wave seeming to signal the derailing of the gravy train entirely.
