12 Upcoming Stephen King Adaptions His Readers Can Look Forward To
11. Hearts In Atlantis
No, you're not experiencing déjà vu. Because we're not talking about the Anthony Hopkins Hearts in Atlantis, adapted from two of the stories featured in the Stephen King collection of the same name.
2001's Hearts in Atlantis, scripted by William Goldman, adapted Low Men in Yellow Coats and Heavenly Shades Of Night Are Falling. It also glossed over most of the ties to King's magnum opus, The Dark Tower. While those stories could feature in some future adaptation of the Dark Tower universe, it's another Hearts in Atlantis that we're referring to here.
This time around, it's the titular story of the collection that is being adapted for a future big screen release. Filmmakers Johannes Roberts (47 Metres Down) and Ernest Riera are adapting the tale. The plot surrounds a group of college kids who become obsessed with the card game Hearts, to the point of risking flunking out of school and being drafted into Vietnam.
There're a lot of ways this adaption could go, but don't expect a nail biting horror flick. After all, the collection really wasn't horror-centric. With the current nostalgia kick in full swing, however, there's a chance this particular story, which has mostly flown under the radar in recent years, could prove poignant on the big screen.
