12 Upcoming Stephen King Adaptions His Readers Can Look Forward To

10. Drunken Fireworks

Hulu

Back in 2016, King's take on the classic "what if" behind the Kennedy assassination, 11/22/63, was released by Hulu. Produced by and starring James Franco, it explored a simple premise: if you could go back in time and stop the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, would you? Should you? What would the fall out be?

11/22/63 the series received positive reviews, and it seems that prompted Franco to get involved with another King adaptation, Drunken Fireworks.

A short story that appeared in the 2015 King collection The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, Drunken Fireworks is the tale of a small town rivalry gone bad. It centers on Alden McCausland, who spends summers with his mother in a lakeside cabin courtesy of lottery winnings. Across said lake, the Massimo family, possibly with mob ties, gets on the nerves of Alden and his mother. Until one 4th of July, Alden sets out to impress the rival family with a massive fireworks display. This leads to something of an arms race over the years, and in the end, the Massimo cottage is burned to the ground.

It's an interesting pick for an adaptation, and would likely need some fleshing out. While there's no current release date for Drunken Fireworks, the script was being worked on by Matt Rager, who previously collaborated with Franco on As I Lay Dying.
