12 Ways 2015 Movies Definitely Made You Dumber

6. You Used Irony As An Excuse To Watch Sharknado & Human Centipede Sequels

Movies like Sharknado and The Human Centipede survive largely on irony alone: you'd need to be especially twisted to watch them because they look genuinely, un-ironically entertaining, but instead most view them because they're so hilariously terrible. The problem is that taking this hipster attitude to bad movies has resulted in filmmakers becoming too self-aware and deliberately attempting to be terrible, which in these two movies is so self-conscious and pandering that it actually becomes off-putting. Making bad movies on purpose just isn't as fun as the brilliant accident of something like, say, Tommy Wiseau's The Room. Entertaining though they might be to a point, that there's a growing cult of fandom around movies like this, which are growing increasingly ridiculous no less (yes, Sharknado 3 ended up in space), it certainly makes a firm argument that our film culture is getting dumber by the minute.
