12 Ways 2015 Movies Definitely Made You Dumber

5. Filmmakers Said "F*** Time Travel Logic"

Time travel is always a tricky prospect to get right in movies, but this year it really felt like filmmakers weren't even trying to get the fundamentals right. Terminator Genisys is the most egregious offender, as it quite literally says, "don't think about the details, regular time travel logic doesn't apply", as a lazy way to paper over the fact that, in theory, Kyle and Sarah could just never have sex and John Connor wouldn't exist. No, instead, he's now an "exile in time" where the regular rules of causality are magically not relevant. Then there's Project Almanac, which was itself full of headache-inducing contradictions and plot holes (which they likely hoped the teen demographic wouldn't notice), and finally, we have Hot Tub Time Machine 2, which uses the veil of comedy to hope you won't pick apart the flimsy continuity all too much. Considering that both Terminator and Almanac were fairly financially successful, it suggests that audiences are prepared to accept these braindead scripts, which in turn implies that we as a general audience are getting dumber, and so scripts of this sort will probably get even lazier and less ambitious in order to continue appealing to the lowest common denominator.
