12 Ways Captain America: Civil War Will Be The Exact Same Movie As Batman V Superman

12. A Problem Based On Previous Movies Catalysed By A New Disaster

Because Man Of Steel was at best divisive, Batman V Superman chose to build its conflict on correcting that universe starter. And, while I€™m not a fan of being reminded of the Superman reboot, it was a pretty solid idea to tackle all the criticism head on, especially with that remarkably not-bad opening sequence with Bruce Wayne in the Battle of Metropolis. So why did Snyder then insert another, less interesting inciting incident; Lois is in the desert for some reason and Superman is blamed for a bunch of deaths, despite everyone being killed by bullets. This was the ultimate motivation for the Senate hearing (which in the trailer had been framed as being about Metropolis) and played a bigger part in Supes role in the titular fight than anything from the previous film.

It looks like Civil War is doing the same; the latest trailer showed The Avengers put to task after the events of their own two outings and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but mere seconds later focused on the destruction of the UN, which seems to be the main catalyst for much of the film (especially the Bucky side of things).

It may seem odd that both Marvel and DC have chosen to supplement the genius idea of using the events of earlier films to add weight to new movies, although that is from a fan point of view; having a self-contained event certainly helps those who aren€™t as au fait with the interlinking continuities.
