12 Ways Captain America: Civil War Will Be The Exact Same Movie As Batman V Superman
11. The Morals Of Superheroics
Warner Bros. Pictures/Marvel
Its not just that both movies are using pre-existing events to lead into a hero-on-hero showdown though theyre using them to ask bigger questions about the costs of superheroes on society; whether the ends justify their destructive means and how they should be regulated.
These are fascinating ideas for sure, and it was really only inevitable we'd get movies looking at them eventually, what with CGI allowing for ever bigger destruction while fans get increasingly aggravated and vocal by the careless approach to the real-life collateral damage of it all. Age Of Ultron may have shoe-horned in rescue sequences, but the moral side of it all needed addressing head-on.
The big turning point for all this was Man Of Steel, so it's only natural that the two movies greenlit directly after it would be the ones to end up tackling it, a rare case of logic behind the two movie's similarities. What remains to be seen is how similar the resolutions will be. Batman V Supermans conclusion was a muddled one, but seemed to be that the world needs heroes. Which way Civil War goes is currently unclear, but given the sheer scope of Phase 3, it's unlikely to be dour as in print (there Cap eventually gives in because he realises everythings gone too far).
