12 Ways Comic Book Movies Totally Ripped Each Other Off

3. The Ring-Tone Gag

Ringtone Gag

Musical gags have been a big part of the Spider-Man movie presence, with Spidey's theme tune being given a number of reboots to appear in both Sam Raimi and Marc Webb's Spider-franchises, and a frankly silly "Incy Wincy Spider" gag in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But Webb took the musical joking a step further by stealing a gag from Iron Man, which also reused a classic Iron Man cartoon theme tune in the background of a scene.

It wasn't that usage that Webb clearly channelled for his sequel though; instead the enthusiastic director mirrored the second appearance of the same Iron Man theme, which is revealed to be the ring-tone that Jim Rhodes has allocated to Tony Stark on his mobile phone. It was good the first time it happened in Iron Man, but the revival in Spider-Man just seemed like over-egging.
