12 Ways To Make A Hulk Movie That Doesn't Actually Suck

11. Don't Do Planet Hulk (Not Yet Anyway)

Yes, Planet Hulk is a brilliant moment in the character's history, and yes it was a very entertaining event in the comic world, but it also wouldn't work as well as a film. That's an unfortunate truth that we're all just going to have to accept.

And the proof? John Carter.

That movie - which is roundly and enthusiastically bashed by way too many people - was actually very good. Yes it had its issues, but it was better than roughly 40% of the MCU's highly praised movies. It just happens that Disney had absolutely no idea how to market it, and nobody went to see it. Mostly because it was called John Carter and nobody had a bloody clue what to expect from it.

But, even with the praise of that movie, the reason it failed with mainstream audiences was that it simply wasn't relatable enough. That might sound ridiculous, given the popularity of fantasy in movies, but the lack of a realistic anchor made it feel slightly hollow. Or at least you could understand those accusations.

Having Hulk - who works in the MCU because of his difference to the other characters (much like Thor, who will team up with Hulk in Ragnarok and similarly also fails on his own comparatively) - in a CGI-heavy environment with fully rendered alien characters and setting (which would be inevitable), would have a similar effect to John Carter in terms of publicity. And worse, there'd be a distinct chance it would end up feeling as artificial and odd as Green Lantern was.
