12 Weirdest Pieces Of Movie Merchandise Ever Created
3. The Jar Jar Binks Tongue Lollipop
Launched in 1999 during the run-up to the release of the first
prequel trilogy films, The Phantom Menace, the Jar Jar Binks lollipop has to be
one of the most dubious pieces of Star Wars merchandise ever conceived.
Basically like a push pop for all you 90s kids out there, the lollipop featured a plastic effigy of Jar Jar Binks’ face and a stick of candy meant to look like a tongue that popped out of his mouth and that sweet-toothed Star Wars fans were supposed to suck on. It didn’t help that the lollipop was designed with kids in mind or that Jar Jar Binks’ tongue was suspiciously phallic and the kind of shade of red that brings to mind an angry, erect animal penis.
We’re not saying the lollipop was the reason why Jar Jar Binks became the most hated character in the Star Wars universe, but we’re strongly implying it could’ve played a part.
