12 Worst Casting Decisions In Marvel Movies

7. Julian McMahon - Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is an incredibly intimidating and diabolical character who happens to be wickedly smart. Putting someone who is basically menace personified on-screen would've been awesome but unfortunately, they got the actor who plays that womanising guy from Nip/Tuck to play the part of a deranged megalomaniac and the results weren't pretty at all. Rather than trying to capture the character's trademark menacing presence or deranged intellect, Julian McMahon decided to turn Doom into a self-obsessed pretty boy who couldn't scare a kid off a swing-set and was more concerned about his hair than with science. The film's script and direction was admittedly awful, but McMahon adopting a 'don't really care' approach to the film and not even having the common courtesy of doing anything eccentric or crazy with the character was probably the toughest thing for Doctor Doom fans to handle. McMahon is a good enough actor on his day and it would've been awesome had he played along, but instead he was nothing more than a lightning-shooting playboy who wore a metal mask because the director told him to.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
