12 Worst Movie Spin-Offs Ever Made
11. U.S. Marshals
The Fugitive is one of the greatest action thrillers ever made, and the movie received widespread critical and commercial acclaim after earning almost $370m at the box office and landing seven Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture.
Tommy Lee Jones was rightfully named Best Supporting Actor for his iconic turn as the no-f**ks-given Samuel Gerard, but spinoff U.S. Marshals failed to recapture the magic, which is hardly surprising given that the character's abrasive nature was never designed to have leading man potential.
The plot is basically a carbon copy of The Fugitive, with Wesley Snipes stepping in for Harrison Ford as the man forced to go on the run after being framed for a crime he didn't commit, with the most original thing about it being the revelation that the cover-up was orchestrated by a man with both arms this time around.
About as formulaic as the genre can get, Jones' grizzled charisma still shines through but it's wasted in a thriller that doesn't have any thrills, or even an ability to hold your attention for that matter.
