13 Actors' Favourite Movies You'd Never Expect

9. Seven Samurai - Tim Allen

Beverly Hills Ninja Christian Bale
ABC & Toho

The Movie: Akira Kurosawa's 1954 masterpiece about seven samurai warriors who help an impoverished village fend off a fleet of bandits.

Why You'd Never Expect It: Uh, because it's Tim Allen and he's a chilled-out funnyman, right? What interest could he possibly have in a subtitled foreign movie that's over 60 years old?

What He Said: "There are so many great themes combined with really stirring dialogue. I know you're thinking I should say a comedy, but when I go to see a movie I like to see something deeper. I love a film that's a great tragedy, and there is no greater tragedy than Seven Samurai.

It's a job so well done that Hollywood could never re-create it. There will never be a remake and that's the ultimate compliment...All I can tell you is that this film holds up for me even though when I see it now it looks so old. But it still grabs me every single time. Even with the subtitles. And I'm not a guy for subtitles."
