13 Actors You Didn't Know Almost Played The Joker

2. Robin Williams

Robin Williams is the only actor on this list who wasn't just considered for the part of The Joker for Tim Burton's Batman, but also lobbied enthusiastically for the same part in The Dark Knight. Would It Have Worked?: Williams is probably the only actor on this list who could have pulled off both parts despite the huge age gap each role would dictate. He's one actor who probably wouldn't struggle with the campiness of Burton's Joker, given his numerous flamboyant comedy roles, and his widely acclaimed voice work in Aladdin. As for The Dark Knight's Joker, Williams would have been in his late 50s by the time it started filming, yet one can't help but think he still would have been able to present a savagely unconventional portrayal of the character. His work in films such as One Hour Photo and the Insomnia remake (also directed by Christopher Nolan) made it clear that the actor is far more versatile than most people gave him credit for.
