13 Announced Movie Remakes Which Could Be Awesome

1. A Prophet

A Phophet Tahar Rahim

The Original: Jacques Audiard's searing 2009 French crime thriller about an imprisoned young Arab man (Tahar Rahim) who rises through the ranks of the prison crime hierarchy. Brilliantly written, fleetingly brutal and wonderfully acted, it's one of the best crime dramas of the last decade.

The Remake: Sam Raimi signed on to direct the remake back in 2016 from a script by legendary crime novelist Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Shutter Island).

Michael B. Jordan has been eyed for Rahim's protagonist and Josh Brolin for mob boss César (played by Niels Arestrup in the original), though no formal announcement has been made in either case.

Raimi is certainly a bit of an odd choice to direct a film this gritty and realistic, and he hasn't helmed a single film since 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful, but if nothing else he'll bring a unique and distinct sensibility from Audiard.

Jordan and Brolin are pretty much spot-on casting picks, so as long as Raimi gets out of his own way on the directing front, there's nothing preventing this being a bang-up foreign language remake.

Which of these upcoming remakes are you most looking forward to? Shout them out in the comments!
