13 Announced Movie Remakes Which Could Be Awesome
2. Little Women
The Original: Louisa May Alcott's 1868's classic post-Civil War coming-of-age novel has actually been adapted to film countless times over the years, with prominent versions being released in 1917, 1918, 1933, 1949, 1978 and 1994.
The Remake: Whether or not the world needs another Little Women adaptation, it's tough not to be impressed with the line-up for this new remake, which completed shooting late last year and is due for release on Christmas Day.
Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) writes the script and directs a ludicrously impressive cast including Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, Bob Odenkirk, James Norton, Chris Cooper and Meryl Streep. Phew.
It's been said that Gerwig's film is a loose adaptation of the source material which shifts the focus in some key areas, but given her clear suitability to the material, it'd be a shock if her Little Women was anything less than a Best Picture front-runner throughout next awards season.
