13 Announced Movie Remakes Which Could Be Awesome

The Original: Over 20 years before Black Panther changed superhero movies forever, the world had Spawn.

One of the first black comic book films - though sadly not a good one - Spawn has only some neat costume design and a deliciously unhinged John Leguizamo performance to prop it up. Otherwise it's stunningly naff, horribly written and atrociously acted. It still has its fans, though.

The Remake: Why bother remaking a great, good or even OK movie when you can give yourself a low bar to vault over by remaking something nobody really liked in the first place?

While the 1997 movie cost an exorbitant $45 million (!), this remake is being made for just $10 million, with hit-maker Jason Blum producing it under his Blumhouse Productions label.

Jamie Foxx will star as Spawn while Jeremy Renner will play his sidekick Twitch, in what's clearly set to be a more grounded riff on the iconic superhero.

The only real red flag here is that Spawn creator Todd McFarlane will serve as both writer-director despite having neither written nor directed a feature film before.

Still, it's easy to trust Blum here given his track record, and the attached talent is undeniably intriguing.

Spawn is set to start shooting in June, and will presumably hit cinemas in mid-2020.
