13 Announced Movies You Won't Believe Are Real

12. Monster Hunter

Screen Gems

The Pitch: Paul W.S. Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil) writes and directs this adaptation of Capcom's beloved action-adventure video game franchise. The film will star Anderson's wife Milla Jovovich (obviously) as well as Tony Jaa, T.I. and Ron Perlman.

Will It Be Any Good?: Paul W.S. Anderson is involved, so almost definitely not. Though the production boasts a decent $60 million budget and Anderson professes himself to be a huge fan of the Monster Hunter series, his track record with video game adaptations - and just movies in general, honestly - doesn't suggest this'll be anything more than a glossy, inane action flick that bares only passing resemblance to the source material.

With Jovovich's protagonist reportedly being an American soldier who gets transported into the parallel Monster Hunter universe, it sounds like Anderson is going to broaden out the series' distinctly Japanese charm and likely strip out much of its soul in the process.

Monster Hunter has already completed principal photography and releases on September 4, 2020.
