13 Anticipated 2018 Movies Destined To Disappoint

The Buzz: A big-budget, Peter Jackson-produced adaptation of Philip Reeve's acclaimed post-apocalyptic steampunk novel, Mortal Engines looks to be a young adult movie adaptation with a difference, counting the terrific likes of Hugo Weaving, Stephen Lang and Colin Salmon among its supporting players.

If Jackson and co. can make the most of this rich world, it could be the start of a hit movie franchise, with three subsequent novels waiting to be adapted.

Why It'll Disappoint: As with James Cameron's Battle Angel adaptation, Peter Jackson is writing and producing here, but has handed off directing duties to an inexperienced director, a first-timer in fact: Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Christian Rivers.

A newbie director in charge of a $100 million movie rarely spells out success, and that's without considering the risk of having relatively unknown young actors front-and-center.

And even accepting all of this, the movie is being released the same day as the Spider-Man animated movie, and mere days before Aquaman and Bumblebee, making it incredibly unlikely to be financially successful.

So, even if it's a good movie, the fact it probably won't get a sequel is going to leave fans immensely disappointed.
