13 Awesome 2016 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

Why It Should've Sucked: A comedy sequel that basically just rehashes the original concept to surely diminishing returns? Got it.

Why It Was Awesome: This follow-up to the 2014 smash hit comedy admirably admits its own redundancy from the outset, but thanks to a clever feminist twist on the first film's formula, manages to bring laughs that pretty much equal (if not slightly improve upon) what came before.

Chloë Grace Moretz's hard-partying freshman adds a unique quality to the movie, riffing on what it means to be a young woman in today's society, amid the oft-toxic fraternity culture in particular. That it makes this commentary without feeling preachy or lessening the laughs is just the icing on the cake.

There's a gag in this movie about Jews and buns and ovens that's probably the funniest one-liner of the whole year. You won't soon forget it.
