13 Awesome 2016 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

11. Ouija: Origin Of Evil

The Shallows Deepwater Horizon
Universal Pictures

Why It Should've Sucked: 2014's Michael Bay-produced Ouija is one of the worst-reviewed horror films of the last decade, scoring an impressively awful 7% on Rotten Tomatoes despite raking in over $100 million worldwide (on a $5 million budget no less). Why would part two be any different?

Why It Was Awesome: Almost all of the credit can go to writer-director Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Hush), who crafts a character-driven prequel that almost completely disengages itself from the first movie, all for the better.

Doubling down on suspense, sharp visuals and excellent performances, Origin of Evil is probably the most-improved follow-up in the history of the horror genre, if not filmmaking entirely. It may not be perfect, but it brings the atmosphere, intelligence and actual sense of fun that were so sorely lacking from the dreadful original.

So, Ouija 3? Sure, why not?
