13 Awesome 2016 Movies That Deserve Best Picture (But Won't Get Nominated)

11. The Nice Guys

Captain America Civil War Oscar
Warner Bros. Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 92% (7.5/10)

Why It Deserves Best Picture: Shane Black delivers arguably the most Shane Black film ever with this hysterical dark comedy, driven by excellent performances from Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling and Angourie Rice.

In a year with so many disappointing movies, here's one riotous winner that embraces its own absurdity all while sending-up all the tired crime thriller tropes, and it being Shane Black, it's also meta as f***.

Why It Won't Get Nominated: For one, it was a box office bomb, which never fares well, and it's also probably too dark and quirky and weird. It could nab a Best Original Screenplay nod if it's really, really lucky, but anything else is just wishful thinking.
