13 Awesome Movies That Only Happened Because Of Awful Flops
9. Freddy Vs. Jason...Because Both Franchises Were In The Toilet
The Awesome Movie: Alright, so the critics didn't take too kindly to the long-awaited superhero showdown (41%), but to fans of the Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises, Freddy vs. Jason was pure catnip. After decades of rumours, the two were finally pitted against one another, and while the lack of a clear winner was a tad disappointing, this was easily one of the very best films from either series as well as the most financially successful entry into either series at the time. How It Got Made: The only reason Freddy vs. Jason got made was to rejuvenate the respective franchises, which were both totally stagnant. 1994's New Nightmare turned up the lowest grosses of the Elm Street series (despite being one of the best entries), while 2002's Jason X only barely made its budget back and was totally panned by critics. If both of these series were still healthy, then there would never have been the desperate need for Freddy vs. Jason, even though fans would still have been dying for it.
