13 Awesome Performances In Otherwise Disappointing 2021 Movies

8. Hugh Jackman - Reminiscence

Reminiscence Hugh Jackman
Warner Bros.

With its interesting premise, stacked cast and talented director (Lisa Joy), Reminiscence was easily one of the most anticipated original films of the year; sadly, it ended up being one of the year's disappointments, mainly thanks to its terrible dialogue, poor pacing and bland villain.

Still, it's a mediocre film as opposed to a bad one and that's mainly because it's kept afloat by one person: Hugh Jackman, who plays the film's lead.

The thing that has made Jackman one of the greatest A-listers in Hollywood is his range; he's both a highly charismatic leading man and a superb dramatic actor and in his role in Reminiscence, both of these sides to him are fully in evidence.

He effortlessly carries the entire film and brilliantly realizes the character's emotional journey in what is a very moving performance, as well as the one thing that gives this movie much legitimacy as a drama.

It's a shame he wasn't given better material, but unlike with some of the other terrible films he's been involved in (Movie 43, anyone?) Jackman came out the other side with a performance he could be truly proud of.
