The Plot: A documentary covering American politician Anthony Weiner's 2011 resignation from Congress after sexually suggestive images featuring him were posted on Twitter, and his subsequently calamitous attempt to run for Mayor of New York City in 2013.

Why It's Awesome: Quite simply, there's no other documentary this year quite like Weiner. Even ignoring the easy punchline of a politician named Weiner getting ensnared in a d*** pic scandal, there's a devastating, perversely funny tenor to this at-times excruciating doc, which gets down deep in the trenches with Weiner and his family as the scandal erupts around them, and without saying too much, erupts once again two years later.

As an examination of contemporary American politics, voter bias, hubris and the power of modern technology, this is a doc that modulates between hysterical and overwhelmingly depressing at a moment's notice. For anyone interested in U.S. politics, it's a must-see.
