13 Awesome Summer Movies You Probably Missed

1. Kubo & The Two Strings

Kubo And The Two Strings Green Room Popstar
Laika

The Plot: A young boy named Kubo (Art Parkinson) must team with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) in order to locate his father's magical suit of armour, which will help him defeat Raiden the Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and the evil Sisters (Rooney Mara).

Why It's Awesome: Laika serve up their best film to date with this eye-wateringly gorgeous stop motion animation that also dares to deliver tender emotion and fantastic performances.

By far the most imaginative and well-realised animated film of the year (sorry, Finding Dory), Kubo is by any standard a near-masterpiece, yet sadly has failed to make its $60 million budget back, and at this stage in the game will be lucky to do so when it's all said and done.

Do yourself a favour and go see it if it's still showing somewhere near you, because it sure as hell deserves your box office dollars more than pretty much any other movie released this summer. If you did see it, give yourself a pat on the back for supporting absorbing, unique filmmaking.

Which of these summer movies are you most eager to catch up with? Got any others? Shout them out in the comments!
