13 Best Character Introductions In MCU Movies
10. The Ancient One (Doctor Strange)
Doctor Strange kicks off with wayward student Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) stealing a mystical text from Kamar-Taj, at which point he and his goons are interrupted by a hooded, yellow figure, the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton).
After some brief words, a chase ensues, with the action promptly teleporting to London, where the Ancient One uses her powers to create an impenetrable glass fractal, before manipulating the London streets around her in eye-popping fashion.
Kaecilius' men attack, but she makes short work of them during a gravity-defying fight on the side of a building, with Kaecilius and his remaining men just barely escaping through a portal.
The Ancient One then restores London to normal and heads off into the streets, removing her hood but not showing the audience her face (yet).
Though the sequence involves very little of Tilda Swinton's performance - using only her voice with the majority of the scene being accomplished by a stunt double - it is nevertheless an insanely bada** debut for one of the MCU's most powerful characters.
The mind-bending visuals not only confirm the Ancient One's unique power set, but assure audiences they're in for quite the trippy ride indeed.
