13 Best Comic Book Movie Deleted Scenes You Need To See
3. Peter Parker Meets His Father!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpC0z2P1uaY2014 was a heck of a year for superhero movies. In the space of just a few months, audiences thrilled to the Guardians Of The Galaxy making their debut, Captain America battling a dazed and confused Bucky in a second solo outing, and Andrew Garfield's not-nerdy-enough Peter Parker taking on a distinctly sub-par Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
What those movie goers didn't know while sitting through the desultory Spider-Man flick was that originally it had a much more satisfying ending. The film starts with Ma and Pa Parker fighting for their lives on an aircraft, continuing the plot-thread of "Whatever happened to Peter's parents?" begun in the first film. At the conclusion of this opening sequence, it seems both Peter's mother and father are splattered all over the landscape.
During the course of the film, Peter discovers a lab hidden long ago by his parents in an abandoned subway station. Don't even ask how much it cost them to build that secret base - but I think it's safe to assume that's the reason why Peter doesn't have a college fund. This discovery keeps the plot-line of Peter's parents bubbling along. But by the end of the flick his dead folks are forgotten again, and we all had to sit through a strange mini-encounter with an unconvincing Rhino.
But wait - that's not how it was supposed to end. It was meant to end with Peter meeting his - gasp! - not-really-dead dad in the cemetery whilst visiting Gwen's grave. The long (and too slow) scene finally provides the emotional culmination to the film that it so desperately needed.
We had to wade through the Peter's Parents Plot for two whole films, and we deserved the chance to see what the point of it all was. The scene also sets up an interesting possible direction for the third act of the trilogy (an act which will now never be made) - Peter and Parker Senior joining forces against the powers of evil. Garfield was reputedly upset that the scene got cut, and I think we can all see why.
