13 Best Comic Book Movie Deleted Scenes You Need To See

4. Superman Returns... To Planet Krypton!

Over five minutes worth of footage was cut from the beginning of 2006's Superman Returns. This dark, brooding, and genuinely thrilling sequence is the opening the movie should have had. It's haunting, alien, and - by virtue of its brave willingness to be different - significantly more interesting than anything else in the film.

This chilling original beginning actually shows where Supes (Brandon Routh) went prior to his return to Earth. It even explains why the Man of Steel crash lands upon his return. Rather than cutting out this stunning voyage into the unknown, director Bryan Singer should have made the rest of the film more like this unused sequence: a little scary and filled with a sense that anything can happen.

Sadly, that's it for DC comics characters in this list. A search for great deleted moments in that universe is a frustrating endeavour. First off, there are no deleted scenes worth a fig from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy. The director is famous for only shooting what he thinks should go into the final cut, resulting in few unused scenes. And what bits there are on Nolan's cutting room floor are never put on a DVD for fans to see.

Oh well, on with the Marvel/Sony movies - now there are studios that believe in shooting hundreds of scenes and using only a handful of them!
