2013's follow-up to Thor, The Dark World, was missing one short, but important, piece. And this piece explains why Loki can use magic.

The deleted snippet occurs immediately after Frigga's visit to her locked up son, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). As Loki passes his fingers through his mother's outstretched but insubstantial hand - showing that she's there in spirit only - the films shifts focus, moving to Frigga (Rene Russo) standing in her chamber. She is then visited by her other son, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who shares an entire, gripping scene with Russo.

They discuss how Frigga shared her magical skills with Loki so that he might not feel so inadequate when compared with Thor. And Thor advises her not to trust him, proving that he's not an idiot when it comes to his brother.

The heart of the Thor films is the dysfunctional dynamic of the Asgardian royal family - and this scene would have nicely added to that emotional core. What a shame it was taken out.
