13 Best Romantic Comedies Of The 21st Century

10. Wall-E

Love Actually
Pixar

Don't be misguided by the exterior of a Pixar animation or the strong addressing of environmental issues, this film is an out and out Rom-Com. Yes, the romance is between two robots, but it doesn't make it any more or less of an entry on this list. If anything, it makes it work even more as a Rom-Com.

Set in a post apocalyptic world, we see Waste Allocation Load Lifter (Earth Class), or Wall-E for short, cleaning up the planet cheerfully each day. His daily routine is changed forever with the arrival of Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator, or EVE as we come to know her, a no nonsense dynamite of a robot who Wall-E is instantly enamoured with.

The first act of this film is Pixar at its finest, with effectively no dialogue used, as we see the out of his depth Wall-E try everything in his shy bumbling manner to win over the girl of his dreams. The animation is the usual brilliance expected of Pixar, but it is the hilarious 'will they won't they' romance dynamic that is the glue that holds the film together.

There may be some who will say that this is not a rom-com, but when you break it down, this Pixar entry ticks all the genre boxes. Guy meets Girl. Guy chases after Girl. Girl plays hard to get. Guy and Girl save each other. Guy and Girl fall in love.

It's as cliched Rom-Com as you get, and it's fantastic!
