In the post-credits scene for Thor: The Dark World, Benicio Del Toro's The Collector appeared, seemingly suggesting that he too is seeking to bring all of the Infinity Stones together. But his end goal is never established, as his lair is destroyed in Guardians Of The Galaxy and nobody seems that bothered about mentioning him having the Aether any more.

So you have to wonder whether The Collector is one of Thanos' so far unrevealed underlings: whether his "one down, five to go" statement refers to collecting them for his boss or simply for his Collection. And if it's the latter, presumably we're going to have to see him in the film, as Thanos gets his hands on the Aether and the Reality Stone within it.

In the comics, The Collector wasn't a bad guy, per se, and was duped into giving Thanos the Reality Stone, as he wasn't aware of its power. The suggestion in the films that he knows exactly what he has and wants the other five puts a completely different spin on him: he's definitely a villain, it just remains to be confirmed whether he's working for Thanos.
