2. Luke Skywalker - Star Wars: The Last Jedi

There are two reasons why Luke Skywalker probably has to die. Firstly, because - as we're told repeatedly - "Star Wars rhymes", which means we're going to see more events from the original trilogy echoed in the new films. Looking at the way Luke is being positioned - particularly in his dynamic with Rey - he's this generation's Obi-Wan Kenobi. And we all know how he ended.

Secondly, Luke being around as Rey's Jedi master (or whatever specific role he turns up as) impedes her development and hinders her ability to truly take on the heroic role. If she is the new "chosen one", she needs to be somewhat isolated, and Luke dying to help speed her along makes a lot of sense.

It feels right for Kylo Ren to kill him - even if it then turns out that Ren is working with Luke to end the Light/Dark divide - or for Luke to sacrifice himself to save Rey. Both would serve the narrative far more than Luke staying around.
