7. Joe Cole's Character - Thank You For Your Service
Played By: Joe Cole
Based on David Finkel's exceptional, important book of the same name, American Sniper screenwriter Jason Hall's directorial debut is set to be a harrowing, devastating and frank look at the reality of the war experience. Like the book, it will follow a group of soldiers as they return home from Iraq and struggle to reintegrate into their normal lives and come to terms with their experiences.
It's set to be a deeply affecting movie, with an agenda to do as Finkel's book did and paint a picture of the difficult reality of soldiers struggling to come to terms with what they've gone through. That book is very much haunted by the presence of suicide (despite the soldiers going through counselling and suicide awareness treatment specifically), and it is in the revelation of soldiers taking their lives that it is most devastating.
Though little is known of the film's exact plot, we do know that Peaky Blinders actor Joe Cole is playing a soldier who returns home in crisis, left by his fiancee and child, and he definitely suits the picture of one whose despair could be used to add that emotionally devastating impact.
