13 Crazy Movie Pitches That Would Have Ruined 2015
8. A Big Lebowski Spin-Off Starring John Turturro's Jesus
The Pitch: John Turturro directs a tangential comedy revolving around The Dude's (Jeff Bridges) bowling-obsessed enemy Jesus Quintana. In an interview last summer, Turturro confirmed he was hoping to shoot the movie in 2015. What Happened?: For one, the Coens don't sound particularly hot on it, and while he doesn't need them to do anything creatively, he will require their signatures to clear all the legal red tape. Ethan Coen said about it, "He talks incessantly about it...He even has the story worked out, which he's pitched to us a few times, but I can't really remember it. I don't see it in our future." As hilarious as Turturro is during his brief screen time in the movie, a feature-length pic based on the character would likely dilute the magic, and given how absurdly dark his character's transgressions are in The Big Lebowski, it would probably be a very challenging sit for most audiences. Spinning off a cult movie is almost always a terrible idea.
