13 Crazy Movie Pitches That Would Have Ruined 2015

7. Ghostbusters 3

The Pitch: The original Ghostbusters team trains up a gang of younger kids to take over their mantle. The four original cast members all return, and Ivan Reitman directs. What Happened?: A lot of the enthusiasm for a soft reboot that basically passed the torch disappeared when writer Harold Ramis (who of course also played Egon Spengler) died early last year, with Reitman ultimately passing on the project. Sony sought a new director for an early 2015 shoot and likely Christmas-time release date, but with the script apparently still not in shape, the window of opportunity was missed. It was ultimately decided to go for a more drastic reboot instead, hiring Paul Feig to helm an all-female Ghostbusters which will hopefully be different enough from the first two movies that, if it totally sucks, it'll be easy enough to just ignore. In the long run though, a third Ghostbusters film starring Murray, Hudson, Ramis and Aykroyd would almost certainly have been a crushing disappointment, all the more so if, as reported, their roles would have been relatively perfunctory extended cameos just to give the new leads a tacit stamp of approval.
