A man with no determinable cause of death was found on Somerton Beach in Adelaide, Australia in 1948. He had no ID, no visible signs of struggle or discomfort, and was dressed in a suit. On his person was a piece of paper that had the words “Tamam Shud;” a Persian phrase for “it is finished.”

After some investigation the page was discovered as having been ripped out of a rare book that was found a few streets away. Inside the book was a cipher only visible under UV light and of unknown origin and meaning. It still hasn't been cracked to this day.

How Would The Movie Look?

The Tamam Shud movie would understandably need to begin with the man washed up on the beach, as the ending is too well-known to be kept a secret for the length of an entire film. But once the ending is out of the way, whoever makes this movie can focus on one of the world’s greatest enduring mysteries by showing audiences what may have happened before the Somerton Man was discovered.

Yes, the note is insanely creepy, but to focus on the life leading up to the note being written would be captivating, with tinges of spy-mysteries and murder-plots worked in. A directing team like found-footage experts Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman could direct this one with style, putting a fascinating spin on a real-life story.
