13 Cringe-Worthy Movie Moments That Completely Ruined Great Songs
13. Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) - Watchmen
Zack Snyder's Watchmen has plenty of fantastic music choices, though selecting Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah for the sex scene between Nite Owl and Silk Spectre was certainly not one of them. The pair are stripping off as Cohen's brilliant but somber tune kicks in, awkwardly juxtaposed with the rather comical tone of the scene, as Spectre keeps her knee-high boots on, and ends up making the Owlship shoot fire just as the pair of them climax. It's spectacularly cheesy, and was widely complained about by both fans and critics. It's difficult to hear the wildly overused song without picturing the image of these two going at it, and even Cohen himself commented on the song's use in the film, "I was just reading a review of a movie called Watchmen that uses it and the reviewer said 'Can we please have a moratorium on "Hallelujah" in movies and television shows?' And I kind of feel the same way...I think it's a good song, but I think too many people sing it."
