13 Disappointing Recent Films That Should've Been Great
1. The Snowman
What Was Expected
One of the best films of the year. How could it not be? With a great cast, a talented director and brilliant source material, this looked like a slam dunk.
What We Actually Got
The Snowman is watchable from time to time, but the actors are wasted, Michael Fassbender gives an extremely rare weak performance, the plot is a confusing mess full of useless subplots and as well as being a film that lacks an emotional pull, it's also largely devoid of actual thrills- and this is meant to be a thriller. It's such a misfire even director Tomas Alfredson has apologized for it.
The movie really makes how bad it is truly clear with one of the worst third acts to a film... well, ever. The big reveal is completely messed up and there are no thrills and no kind of psychological depth. And frankly, the final battle is simply laughable.
In short, it's the epitome of a movie that should've been great but was a complete and utter failure.
